Preparing for your surgery
Days prior to Surgery
Try to avoid activities that could cause cuts or grazes on your limbs (e.g. gardening).
You may need to withhold certain medications, such as blood thinners, prior to surgery, but our team will advise you of this.
Our practice will contact you 1-2 days prior to surgery to confirm the time you need to come to the hospital (usually between 7am-midday).
Day of Surgery
You need to fast (cease eating and drinking) from midnight the night before your surgery.
If you have surgery later in the day you may be able to have a light breakfast, but we will make sure to give you accurate instructions prior.
You are encouraged to have a shower or bath on the day or night prior to surgery.
Please bring all of your imaging with you to hospital (X-rays/CT scans/MRI scans).
Wear comfortable loose clothing.
Remove all jewellery and body piercings prior to attending hospital.
Do not wear any nail polish or fake nails.
Please let us know if:
You are feeling unwell or have a cough/cold/fevers
You have any cuts, grazes or broken skin in the region near the planned operation
